Stranger's now
Published: September 12, 2026
Have you ever been ghosted? Have you ever known someone, but they now feel like a stranger? We have all ghosted God, we all have made God feel like a stranger. How often do you talk to God? How often do you feel God’s call or presence and leave the message on read?
Why are we ghosting God? Why have we made God a stranger? Are we “to cool” for God? We all have times when we feel close to God. We have all called God’s heart our home, but we run away and become strangers and call the world our home. Is the world your stranger?
“If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.”
- John 15:19
Have you ever had a friend that moved away, or have you just lost connection with them? Then when you see them again is it awkward or exciting? Many times, when I have a friendship, then lose connection, I stay away from that person and act like I don’t remember them, I pretend they are strangers.
This is what we do with God. We make him a stranger. We pretend not to recognize his mighty works and just want God to leave us alone. We ghost and don’t want the person to text us again.
I can’t understand why we do this to God. Why do we make the creator of the world a stranger, so we can get to know the creation better? We put God on hold so we can pick up the evil of the world. We ghost God so we can reply faster to the creation.
This makes no sense. There is no way to justify our constant decision. It’s time to pick up the phone and make that long awaited call, it’s time to reconcile with the long-lost friends that feel like strangers now, it’s time to reply to the text we have ghosted for so long.
God has been calling your phone waiting for you to pick up (Rev. 3:20). Are you going to pick it up or just go along with your life, making God a more and more distant stranger. Leaving his message on read for eternity, never calling him back, hanging up the second he calls. Isn’t it time to pick up the phone. Or should we let the missed calls go on forever?
God once felt like home, now we can’t recognize his number. When he texts, us it comes in as potential spam. We don’t recognize our own father’s voice.
