Isn't it Worth it?

Published: October 3, 2026

“And He *said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.””, Matthew 4:19

When Jesus called Simon and Andrew to follow Him, they dropped everything and never turned back.

They didn’t have second thoughts (mostly…).

They didn’t look back to their friends.

They didn’t look back to their stable jobs.

They didn’t even look back to their homes.

They dropped EVERYTHING, in the blink of an eye, to go and follow Him.

I wonder if they knew what they were getting into…

'And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself? ‘, Luke 9:23-25

This was crazy language.

Jesus was saying DAILY pick up your cross and follow Me.

Every day, pick up the block of wood on which you are going to be sentenced to death,

And follow Me.

That’s quite an exaggeration.

But is it?

We need to be able to drop everything and follow Him.

And if we can’t do that, we need to reconsider our values.

Because often our cross is CRAZY simple

Telling the truth.

Smiling at that weirdo nobody takes notice of.

Sharing our thoughts about God with friends.

And all too often, we pick up our “cross” and say:

Oh! That wasn’t half as hard as I thought it would be.

And even when it’s not,

Even when it seems like the hardest thing in the world,

It’s still worth it.

Why?

Because of two things:

1: We followed His will and are guaranteed a home in heaven,

And

2: We helped build the Kingdom a little more.

And if you don’t think it’s worth it to do what He asks you, I have a question

If you won’t work a little for eternal life,

Then why would you work at all for anything else.
