The drift
Have you been slowly drifting away from God? Today, most people are slowly drifting from God. Why is this? Why are we drifting away from God’s love toward our sinful desires? The simple truth is because drift is natural. Direction on the other hand is intentional.
Drifting is “getting in the boat and just float”. Direction needs intentional work. So, are you drifting away from God or directing your life for him?
It is much easier to live a life of drifting. It is easier to fall into temptation than it is to fight against it. It is easier to be in and of the world than just in the world. Drifting might not seem anything big at first but as we slowly compromise our truths we compromise more and more.
When we lie it turns into a chain of lies; one sin leads to another, and we don’t know when and how to stop. By the time we realize we have drifted we think it is too late to turn back. We look back and we can’t see where we started and realize just how lost we are.
Then we tell ourselves that there is no way back and we should continue drifting aimlessly away from God. We don’t know the way back home, so we drift.
There is truth in this. We can’t find our way back home on our own. We need someone to rescue us when we are in the middle of the ocean surrounded by sharks waiting to tear us to pieces.
We are in a storm and no matter what we do we can’t get out. So, we cry out and think no one hears us. We plead for our lives and think no one cares. We try this for only a glimpse of the time that it took us to get there then continue in our own ways. We are lost at sea. Because we have drifted so far away.
We try to fix this problem, but we keep drifting. We try to paddle back to God, but we will never make it. We realize this far to late. Now that it feels hopeless, we try to forget about life’s problems. Drowning it out with sins.
All is lost. We slowly start to sink. Then in the distance we can see a light we can hear the sound of salvation. Are savior reaches out his hand in the moment when we felt utterly defeated. We realize that the light has been there all this time. The trumpets of salvation have been echoing in our mind. The savior’s hand has been patiently waiting for us to grasp hold.
All this time we were drifting God was there for us to rescue us. We rejected him time and time again.
Why are we drifting from God? The problem is because we think it is all about us. We think we are the main characters. We put ourselves above God.

God is the main character. We think it is all about us but it’s not. It is all about God. If God isn’t in it then neither should we. If God is in it then that should be the center of our attention.
God should be the center of our lives and focus, but instead we drift from reality and somehow conclude that it is all about us. We slowly drift from reality and make up our own.
It is not about us. If God is not in it then run; make intentional changes and God will dramatically change your life. If God doesn’t show up in what you’re doing right now, then you should not want it.
So, how do we solve the drift in our lives? We must,
“Draw near to God and he will draw near to you” – James 4:8
And,
“Seek first the kingdom of God” – Matthew 6:33
Being intentional is not easy. Being selfish is. Are you going to continue to pick the easy way out and continue to drift or are you going to be intentional with how you live your life? Are you going to continue to live your life thinking it’s all about yourself? Or are you going to come to realization that it’s not about you? God is the main character so when are you going to act like that.
Are you going to take the hand of the savior when all hope seems lost or are you going to feed your hand to the sharks? Fall into the ocean and never come back to God. Be devoured by the schemes of the evil one? Or fall into an abundance of grace? Look up the savior has been waiting this whole time. All you need to do is turn from the storm and grasp the firm hand of the savior.
