devo series 2: Silence
Published: March 30, 2026
Silence
speaks louder than wrath.
Wrath is a closed fist—
it hurts, but says nothing.
Hurt doesn’t quiet us,
it stirs anger.
Anger ferments into hate,
and hate circles back
into silence.
What does silence lead to?
Does it lead to reflection
Or does it reflect back to wrath?
Does it heal your heart
Or does it make you strike back in anger?
Does it bring peace to your mind
Or does it feed hate once more?
Does silence bring good?
Or does silence bring back wrath, anger, and hate?
Silence is powerful—
it can break the cycle
or begin it again.
“Silence in the face of evil is evil itself. Not to act is to act, not to speak is to speak.”
-Dieterich Bonhoffer.
Are you silent or are you willing to confront evil with justice and love? Are you staying silent as evil carries out or are you stopping this evil? The world is evil we are to be in the world but not of it. Are you in it or of it? Silence is powerful and can be in the way you use it. There is a time to speak and a time for silence. Will you speak by staying silent, or will you speak with your actions, either way you are speaking.
Sharing the gospel is not just using words but actions and silence. Even a fool seems wise when he stays silent Solomon tells us in Proverbs. When you are attacked with words sometimes the best thing to do is stay silent and receive the beating. When Jesus was about to be crucified, he stayed silent. Mark 15:5 states “But Jesus made no further answer; so, Pilate was amazed.”
There are other times speaking with words is not necessary instead staying silent but leading by example with your actions. Like Jesus and Isaac silently were led to the slaughter they did not run they willing excepted their punishment. Our good works and actions should testify who Jesus is that we cannot do this on our own.
Actions and words were never meant to compete; they were meant to complete each other. In a world numb to evil, silence alone will not stop darkness. Actions without words may inspire, but words ignite movements. No team rallies without a voice, no rebellion rises without a cry.
We are called not only to see evil but to confront it—with justice, with love, with truth, and with the gospel that transforms hearts. Our mission is not passive observation but active obedience.
