Am I good enough?
Published: June 16, 2026
Are you good enough for God? I recently went to California with some people from my church and we did two VBS's a day. I found a consistent theme throughout the week that I have started to reflect on. I personally talked to one after I got to know him throughout the week. When I was talking to him, he consistently would make up some reason why he wasn't "prepared" to accept Christ. He needed to be better and prepare more before he could. I told him that he is missing the point entirely.
No matter how good we are we will never be good enough that is why we need Jesus. I shared with him my testimony and how he used a little selfish 10-year-old that had never spent a penny on someone else to freely give all his money and raise over one hundred thousand dollars. But he still did not feel ready no matter what analogy or wording I said.
Multiple other kids said similar statements and didn't feel ready like they first had to earn it. We even got the opportunity to speak with a Muslim. And Muslim's believe that you need to be good enough to go to heaven. Now reflecting on my life, I have realized that I am the same.
Any time I'm struggling with sin I feel un-worthy to pray to God. Un-worthy to read the Bible. Un-worthy to feel God's presence. But Jesus came for the lost not the perfect he says in Mark 2:17 "It is not the healthy that need a doctor but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous but the sinners."
During the trip I felt God's presence more than I probably ever have. I slowly began to realize that I can't overcome temptation and sin without God I need to call out to him the most when I'm struggling not when I'm doing well.
I think we say in our minds God is so mad at us why would he listen to my cry especially when I keep sinning against him. But God sent his one and only son to die for us while we were still sinners. Jesus already showed us the greatest type of love by laying down his life when we did nothing to earn us.
"I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." -Luke 15:7
Why are we scared of repenting turning away from sin and back to God? Do we think we just aren't good enough? Because your right but you'll always be right no matter what we do we will never be good enough for God that is why he came to us.
"Here I am I stand at the door and knock. He who opens the door I will come in and eat with him and he with me." -Revelation 3:20
Have you opened that door yet or are you still cleaning up your house trying to make it perfect? No matter how long you clean there will still be one hidden speck of dust somewhere or something will be slightly out of place. We cannot make our lives perfect that is exactly why we need Jesus.
Are you ready to accept this or are you going to keep the door shut and keep on trying to perfect everything?
